RIVER FOREST, Ill. - The Benedictine University women's soccer team dropped a 3-1 decision at Concordia Chicago on Tuesday afternoon.
Benedictine was the aggressor early, posting four shots and recording three corner kicks in the first 12 minutes. None of the shots were able to make it on goal however.
Maddie Frye made a pair of saves as the momentum turned, but Concordia Chicago opened the scoring in the 25th minute.
Emily Cook had a chance to tie the score not long after, but her attempt was denied in goal.
Trailing 1-0 entering the second half, the opening of the frame was similar to the first. Cook and
Rachael Hodison missed on chances to even the score in the first five minutes. The hosts extended the advantage to 2-0 in the 54th minute. Benedictine responded on the ensuing kickoff by hitting a crossbar on a try from Cook. The lead reached 3-0 in the 58th minute on a header. The lone tally for Benedictine came in the 80th minute when
Danielle Melotte converted on a penalty kick for her team best fifth goal of the season.Â
Concordia Chicago held a slim 15-13 edge in shot attempts.
Megan Anderson registered four shots with Cook adding three. Frye stopped four shots in net.
"That was a disappointing loss," head coach
Mike Boland said. "We were the better team for large stretches of the game. Small mental mistakes amounted to goals against, this one stings."
Benedictine (3-11-1, 1-5 NACC) travels to Lakeland on Saturday for a 1:00 p.m. affair.
