LISLE, Ill. - The Benedictine University women's soccer team battled the leaders of the conference on Wednesday night, falling 4-0 to Aurora.
Benedictine hung with the regionally ranked visitors for much of the first half. Aurora opened the scoring in the 16th minute. The goal would be the only scored for much of the half as the Benedictine defense thwarted several attempts until late in the half.
"Credit to Aurora," head coach
Mike Boland said. "That's a very good team with some special players and well deserving of their ranking. Our group did well to implement the game plan, we just fell short in the personnel to execute for the duration."
Maddie Frye stopped three shots in net during the opening 45 minutes, but the visitors extended the advantage to 3-0 with two goals in just over a minute as the half wore down. Benedictine did not register a shot until the 69th minute, and finished with three in the contest. Frye totaled nine saves in the effort. Aurora has won eight straight conference titles.
Benedictine (4-12-1, 2-6 NACC) will travel to Marian on Saturday afternoon for a 12:00 p.m. contest.
