NORTH MANCHESTER, Ind. - The Benedictine women's basketball team dropped a pair of non-conference games as part of the Main View Tipoff Tournament hosted by Manchester.
Benedictine fell to the hosts 57-53 on Friday and dropped a 65-52 decision in the Consolation Game on Saturday.
Vincenza Ranallo earned a slot on the All-Tournament Team.
Friday's opener saw Benedictine net the first six points of the game, four from
Alanna Ferry. Manchester was able to come back and even the game at 9-9 with 13:35 remaining in the first. Six straight points late in the half put Benedictine in front 23-18, but a three from Manchester in the closing seconds made it just a 23-21 edge at the break. Manchester took the lead for good just four minutes into the second, and extended the lead to 10 points with 7:20 remaining. Benedictine scrapped to within two points instantly with an 8-0 run, but could pull no closer. The Eagles found themselved within two points three times in the final four minutes.
Ranallo tallied 19 points in the game with
Nicole Botich adding 11 rebounds. The Eagles shot 54.2 percent in the second half.
Saturday's consolation game saw Benedictine fall behind 4-0 only to utilize a 13-3 run to lead by six points with 12:32 left in the first on a basket from
Venita Parsons. Capital tied the game, but six straight points put Benedictine up 19-13 at the 5:48 mark.
DeKayla Crayton finished the run with a layup. The Eagles led by six late in the half, but Capital rallied to tie the game at the break.
Benedictine led only briefly in the second half following a three from
Meghan Novakwith 16:03 to play. Capital responded by scoing 17 unanswered points to grab a big lead at the mid-point of the half. Novak deposited a layup at the five-minute mark which brought Benedictine within 10, but the Eagles could pull no closer.
Benedictine finished the game shooting just 27.7 percent from the field. Ranallo finished with a game best 22 points, knocking down five threes. Novak finished with 13 points.
Benedictine (0-4) returns to the floor on Wednesday night at home against North Central in the final non-conference game of the season.
