Coming off of a win last Saturday at Concordia University Wisconsin, the Benedictine University football team hosts Rockford University this Saturday at the Village of Lisle/Benedictine University Sports Complex. Kick-off is set for 1:00 p.m.
Â
The Eagles (4-4, 3-1) snapped Concordia-Wisconsin's streak of 13 consecutive wins in NACC play with a 33-6 victory. Running back
Artie Monaco scored two first-half touchdowns (one rushing, one receiving) as the Eagles led 13-6 at halftime. BenU pulled away in the third quarter, scoring three touchdowns and outscoring the Falcons 20-0. After finding Monaco on a 57 yard score in the first half, quarterback
Ryan Keener threw touchdowns to
Greg German and
Omar Lopez in the third quarter. On defense,
Rodney Nichols returned an interception 54 yards for a score.
Â
On offense, Keener was strong once again, completing 17 of 30 passes for 257 yards, three touchdowns, and no interceptions. Â
Rockford is 1-7 on the season and is still looking for its first win in NACC play. After a convincing 34-6 win to open up the season against Lawrence University on September 6. The Regents have taken on three of the top four teams in the NACC, losing to Lakeland College, Concordia-Wisconsin, and Wisconsin Lutheran College by a combined score of 139-27. Rockfod has moved the ball well through the air, as the team is fourth in the NACC with 203.8 yards per game.
Â
The Eagles have enjoyed success against the Regents since the NACC adopted football in 2008, winning all six of the past matchups. BenU has averaged 30.2 points in those six wins, while Rockford has averaged 10.2. Last season, the Eagles won at Rockford 30-13 and gained 261 yards on the ground.
