Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

AUBURNDALE Florida-- The Benedictine University baseball team began the 2014 season today with two games at the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational. BenU dropped both contests at the Lake Myrtle Complex to fifth-ranked Wisconsin-Stevens Point, falling 9-0 and 11-2, both in seven innings.

In game one, Stevens-Point jumped off to an early lead off BenU starter Ryan Rickert (4.2 innings, 6 runs, 5 earned), plating three runs off three hits. The Pointers would strike for two more in the third, one in the fifth, two in the sixth, and one in the seventh.

Stevens-Point recorded 11 hits and two errors compared to BenU's seven hits and three errors. The Eagles threatened to score three times, ending the third, fourth, and seventh innings with runners in scoring position against UW-Stevens Point starter Cam Seidl, but could not get a run across and left seven men on-base in the game. Brandon Clark had the only multi-hit game for BenU (2-for-3), while Tim Hendricks, Ryan Mullin, Kevin Hendricks, Justin Kovalsky, and Nicholas Fillmore all had a hit a piece.

In game two, the Pointers would once again jump out to an early lead with a first inning run off BenU starter James Rooks (2.1 innings, 7 runs), but BenU would seven things up in the third inning on a two-out single by first baseman Ryan Mullin scored Tim Hendricks. However, the Pointers would explode for eight runs in the bottom half of the inning to build an 9-1 lead. BenU scored one more in the top of the fourth with a single down the left field line by second baseman Matthew Higgs, and the Pointers tallied two more in the sixth.

The Eagles managed just four hits in game two, with Tim Hendricks, Ryan Mullin, Brandon Clark, and Matthew Higgs all reaching on singles.

Benedictine baseball will be right back at it with two more games tomorrow. BenU will oppose the College of Brockport at 1:00 p.m. central time at Teneroc High School and Ripon College at 5:30 p.m. central time at the Lake Myrtle Complex.
