After dropping their first game of the day to Lake Forest, the Benedictine University softball team came out swinging against Plattsburgh State, winning 9-0 in five innings.
In the first game, Lake Forest (6-3) scored a run in the bottom of the first to take the early 1-0 lead. Both teams remained scoreless for the next two innings until LFC drove in their final three runs of the game.
Benedictine (1-1) threatened several times, but didn't score until the sixth when
Kelly Mieszala led off with a single to right field followed by another single from
Kailee Cable.
Sarah Koch drove in the Eagles only run with a single up the middle.
Alex Daviera had a hit but that's all the scoring the Eagles could come up with, falling 4-1.
Melissa Guzior started on the mound for BenU, allowing five hits with two strikeouts.
Eryn Pondo came in and had one strikeout.
In game two, BenU got o the board early, tallying a run in the first. With two outs in the third, Daviera tripled to right center and scored on a a Cable single. Koch kept the offense going with a single up the middle and both players scored after a double from
Amanda Straka.
The offense continued in the fourth, scoring five more runs on hits from
Chelsea White, Mieszala and Koch to go on to win 9-0.
Katie McKay had her debut on the mound for the Eagles, allowing just four hits and striking out one in 17 at-bats.
Benedictine takes on Ripon College and Utica College on Sunday with start times of 8:00 am and 10:00 am CST.
