AUBURNDALE, Florida-- The Benedictine University baseball team dropped Sunday afternoon's game to third-ranked Southern Maine. BenU fell to the Huskies 13-1 in eight innings at the Lake Myrtle Sports Complex in Auburndale, Florida.
Southern Maine (4-1) controlled the game from the start, plating five runs in the first inning behind Benedictine starter
Nick Diessner (3.1 innings, 8 earned runs). The Huskies also scored runs in the second, third, fifth, and eighth to tally 13 on the day. BenU's lone run came off the bat of
Matthew Higgs, who tripled in
Justin Kovalsky in the third inning.
Higgs, Kovalsky, Nicholas Fillmore, and
Kevin Hendricks were the only Eagles to record hits. Freshman
Alex Wolfe (3.2 innings, 2 runs, 1 earned) was strong in relief.
The Eagles now have a 1-4 record on the Spring break trip. After an off-day tomorrow, BenU will take on Washington and Jefferson College Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. central time at the Chain of Lakes Complex.
