After falling to Hope College 7-1, the Benedictine University softball team defeated Springfield College 2-1 to end their time in Florida.
Hope College tallied five runs in the first three innings to take the 7-1 win.
Kailee Cable was 2-3 with the only RBI of the game while
Kelly Mieszala,
Chelsea White and
Holly Haberkorn all recorded hits.
In the second game, it was Benedictine (5-4) who scored first, tallying a run in the first inning after a
Sarah Koch double, scoring
Erin Kotlarz who singled earlier in the inning.
Both teams remained scoreless for two innings until the Eagles scored their final run in the fourth.
Shannon Fritsche led off the inning with a walk and was driven in on a Cable double to take the 2-0 lead. Springfield scored a run in the bottom of the frame and threatened with bases loaded in the seventh but came up short as BenU went on to win 2-1.
Kotlarz was 3-3 with a run scored while Koch and Cable each tallied hits and an RBI.
Melissa Guzior received her third win of the season, allowing six hits with two strikeouts in 7.0 innings pitched.
Benedictine is back in action on Tuesday, March 25 when they travel to Wheaton College for a 3:00 p.m. doubleheader.
