Box Score CHICAGO, Ill. - The Benedictine University baseball team dropped a 6-5 decision at North Park on Wednesday afternoon.
Benedictine led 3-0 in the contest but could not hang on.
Matthew Higgs opened the game with a triple and scored when
Justin Kovalsky singled. The lead extended to 2-0 in the first on a
Brandon Villanueva double.
Ryan Mullin doubled in the third to plate Kovalsky and make the lead 3-0.
North Park scored six unanswered runs to take the lead. The Vikings scored twice in the third, once in the fourth, and three times in the fifth. Benedictine rallied with runs in the seventh and eighth but could not complete the comeback, leaving the tying run in scoring position in the ninth.
Kevin Hendricks logged an RBI single in the seventh and Kovalsky plated a run with a groundout in the eighth.
Spencer Lehmann and
Alex Wolfe pitched 3.1 scoreless innings out of the bullpen. Benedictine stroked 11 hits in the loss with Kovalsky tallying three. Higgs notched a pair and
Max Oppenheimer also added two.
Benedictine (2-9) will travel to Wheaton on Thursday night at 5:00 p.m.
