Box Score 2 LISLE, Ill. - The Benedictine University softball team recorded a pair of 8-0 shutouts over Rockford to open conference play on Sunday.
GAME ONE: BENEDICTINE 8, ROCKFORD 0 - SIX INNINGSThe offense took until the third inning to get moving, but a big frame set the tone for the remainder of the afternoon.
Sarah Koch opened a big game with a two out, two-run single in the frame.
Kailee Cable drilled a two-run homer to right as all four runs crossed with two outs. Koch ended the game in the bottom of the sixth with a two out, three-run double to the gap in left center.
Koch drove home five of the eight runs while Cable finished 3-for-3.
Alex Daviera also added two hits.
Melissa Guzior went the distance for her first shutout of the season, allowing just five hits with a walk and four strikeouts to improve to 5-2 on the season.
GAME TWO: BENEDICTINE 8, ROCKFORD 0 - FIVE INNINGSHolly Haberkorn twirled a one-hitter as Benedictine completed the doubleheader sweep with another shutout.
Benedictine scored multiple runs in three seperate innings on the offensive end to provide support for Haberkorn. Haberkorn helped herself in the bottom of the second with a two-run homer over the wall in left with no one out, scoring
Shannon Fritsche.
Chelsea White added an RBI double in the frame. Haberkorn was at it again in the third with an RBI single. The game was put out of reach in the fourth with three runs. Koch drove home a run with a triple and Cable logged an RBI double.
Koch drove home six runs in the doubleheader with Cable adding four hits total. Koch, White, and
Katie McKay posted two hits in the second contest. Haberkorn struck out five in five blank frames to up her record to 2-0 on the season.
Benedictine (8-5, 2-0) will return to action on Monday afternoon with a doubleheader against Edgewood at 3:00 p.m.
