The Benedictine University men's lacrosse team has two Midwest Lacrosse Conference games scheduled for the upcoming week. BenU will travel to Elmhurst on
Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. and hosts Augustana on
Saturday at 1:00 p.m. Benedictine (6-3, 2-1) is coming off of a close MLC win against Hanover on Saturday. The Eagles jumped out to a 5-0 lead after the first quarter, but Hanover would fight back and make it a 7-6 game in the fourth.
Trevor Buman scored his fifth goal of the season to give the Eagles an 8-6 lead, and after Hanover scored goal number seven,
Jeffrey Smitheram saved three shots in the final 40 seconds to preserve the victory.
Elmhurst (4-4, 2-1) comes into the contest tied with BenU in the conference standings and on a three-game winning streak, defeating MLC foes MSOE and Fontbonne along with a non-conference opponent in Hendrix College. The streak comes after a 1-4 start to the season, where the Bluejays were outcomes 30-52 and let up double-digit goals three times. Last season, Elmhurst finished 3-10 overall, 1-8 in MLC play, and lost to the Eagles 16-6.
Tyler Buschow netted three goals for Benedictine in that contest.
Augustana (5-3, 2-1) is another MLC foe currently tied with BenU. After finishing 11-6 overall, 8-2 in conference play, and falling in the semi-finals of the MLC tournament last season, the Vikings were picked to finish in a tie for second in this year's preseason poll and earned one first place vote. Augustana also defeated BenU 16-6 during last season's successful run despite two goals from Buschow. The team is starting to hit its stride, winning three straight since falling in overtime to Concordia-Wisconsin on March 15. Before facing the Eagles, the Vikings will oppose MSOE on Wednesday.
