Baseball Walks Past Illinois Wesleyan

LISLE, Ill. - Behind seven shutout innings from starter Ty Anderson, the Benedictine University baseball team recorded a 6-2 non-conference win over the leaders of the CCIW, Illinois Wesleyan, on Thursday night.

Benedictine struck for the first run in the bottom of the first inning. Brandon Clark drove home the first of two runs with a two-out RBI single through the left side. The Eagles broke open the contest with three runs in the fourth. Mike Luschen registered an RBI single to start the scoring. An error allowed the second run to score and Ryan Mullin coaxed a bases loaded walk to force home a run.

Anderson allowed just five hits in seven innings, issuing a walk while recording a strikeout. Three other pitchers finished off the contest. Illinois Wesleyan scored two unearned runs in the ninth. Benedictine drew five walks in the game including two that forced home runs while registering eight hits. Seven different individuals tallied at least one hit with Tom Byrne leading the way with two in just his second start of the season.

Benedictine (13-11) faces Edgewood in a conference doubleheader on Saturday at 12:00 p.m.
