Softball Scores Non-Conference Sweep

BELOIT, Wis. - The Benedictine University softball team scored a non-conference doubleheader sweep at Beloit on Thursday to run their win streak to five games, matching the longest of the season.

The first game lasted just six innings as Benedictine rolled to a 9-1 win. The Eagles scored in five different innings to cruise to the decision. With the score even at 1-1 in the second, Benedictine struck for three runs to take the lead for good. Kelly Mieszala notched an RBI single to put Benedictine ahead and Sarah Koch capped the frame with a two-run single.

All nine starters picked up at least one hit in the first game as Benedictine mashed 15. Kailee Cable continued a hot stretch by leading the way with three hits. Seven individuals drove home at least one run. Melissa Guzior worked three innings in the circle piggy backed by Eryn Pondo.

Game two saw Benedictine pick up a pair of runs in the first inning on the way to a 7-3 decision. Koch put Benedictine ahead with an RBI single just three batters into the game. An error allowed the second run to score. Benedictine added two in the fifth, two in the sixth, and another in the seventh to open a 7-0 lead. Beloit scored three times in the bottom of the seventh to account for the final.

Holly Haberkorn worked 6.2 innings and struck out 13 to improve to 7-2 on the year. Koch finished with three hits and three RBIs. Erin Kotlarz also notched three hits in the win.

Benedictine (19-10) hosts Concordia Wisconsin on Saturday afternoon at 12:00 p.m.
