LISLE, Ill.-- The Benedictine University softball team hosted a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference doubleheader against Concordia-Wisconsin on Saturday. CUW took the first game 4-2, but BenU responded with a 4-3 victory in game two.

Benedictine jumped out to lead in the second inning of game one on a RBI single from Nikki Powers, driving in Shannon Fritsche. However, the Falcons would respond in the fourth inning with four runs, sacrafice bunting four different times and taking advantage of three BenU errors in the frame. The Eagles would add one more on a Sarah Koch solo home run to left field in the bottom of the fifth inning, but CUW's Jamie Schuh would toss two scoreless innings in relief to save the contest for starter Melissa Perkins.

Melissa Guzior took the loss for BenU despite not allowing an earned run in seven innings of work. At the plate, Fritsche, Koch, and Alex Daviera all recorded two hits, while Fritsche, Kelly Mieszala, and Tori Walzak all stole a base.

In game two, the Falcons jumped out to a 2-0 lead against BenU starter Holly Haberkorn. However, the Eagles would respond with two run in the bottom half of the inning on an RBI single by Koch and an RBI double from Haberkorn. The score remained tied until the bottom of the fifth, when the Eagles added two more runs on an RBI groundout from Mieszala and a steal of home by Chelsea White. Concordia-Wisconsin cut the lead to one in the top of the sixth, but Haberkorn pitched a 1-2-3 seventh inning to earn the complete game victory.

The victory was Haberkorn's eighth of the season (8-2), as she allowed six hits and one walk with seven strikeouts. White had a 2-for-2 day at the plate with a stolen base, and Erin Kotlarz and Koch stole bases as well.

Saturday's split with the Falcons puts BenU at 20-11 overall and 10-6 in NACC play. Next up for Benedictine is a doubleheader on Monday at NACC foe Dominican beginning at 3:00 p.m.
