Softball Finishes Regular Season With Sweep

LISLE, Ill. - The Benedictine University softball team finished off the regular season with a sweep of Alverno.

Benedictine came from behind in the opener to collect a 5-4 decision. The Eagles fell behind 4-0 after Alverno scored four times in the fourth. Benedictine began to rally with two runs in the bottom of the frame with one crossing on an error and another on a single from Alex Daviera. Benedictine evened the game with two more in the fifth. Both runs scored on a triple from Kelly Mieszala, who had a monster doubleheader. Pinch hitter Tori Walczak drove home the game winner in the sixth.

Mieszala finished 3-for-3 in the opener. Kailee Cable also logged two hits. Katie McKay earned the win with 2.2 innings of relief. Holly Haberkorn started the contest but recorded the save.

Alverno scored in the first of the second contest but Benedictine rallied for nine straight to end the game in six innings. Mieszala tripled with the bases loaded to Benedictine ahead for good in the third. Mieszala drove home four in the game. Mieszala, Chelsea White, and Cable posted two hits each. Haberkorn picked up the win in game two.

Benedictine (28-11, 16-6) heads into the conference tournament having won nine consecutive games. The Eagles will be the third seed in next weekend's conference tournament hosted by ALverno after tying for second with Wisconsin Lutheran.
