Box Score LISLE, Ill. - The Benedictine University baseball team dropped the final non-conference game of the season, a 6-4 defeat at the hands of Wheaton.
Benedictine never led in the game. Wheaton scored two unearned runs in the top of the first to grab the lead. The Eagles scored an unearned run in the bottom of the frame to claw within 2-1. Wheaton scored again in the second.
Tim Hendricks led off the bottom of the inning and scored on a single from
Kevin Hendricks. Wheaton added two in the third to control a 5-2 advantage. Benedictine used single runs in the sixth and seventh to get close, but Wheaton was able to hold on for the win, sweeping the two game home and home series.
Zach Duffield started for Benedictine, allowing just two earned runs in five innings.
Will Diessner and
Jozef Palasiewicz closed out the contest with two hits each.
Tim Hendricks was the only player to log more than one hit in the game as Benedictine finished with seven.
Benedictine (20-16) concludes the regular season on Saturday afternoon against Concordia Chicago with a 12:00 p.m. doubleheader at the Sports Complex.
