Box Score MAUSTON, Wis. - The Benedictine University softball team was swept in a conference doubleheader for the first time since 2009, dropping a pair of games in the first date of a weekend in Wisconsin.
GAME ONE: MARIAN 6, BENEDICTINE 5 - NINE INNINGSMarian rallied after being down 5-1 late to steal a win in the opener.
Amanda Straka opened the scoring with a two-run homer in the top of the second inning. Marian scratched the deficit in half with a run in the bottom of the frame. Straka made it 3-1 with an RBI single in the fourth.
Sarah Koch homered in the fifth to distance the lead to 5-1. Marian began to rally in the sixth with two unearned runs and evened the game in the seventh with two more. The winning run crossed on a sacrifice fly in the ninth.
Straka finished with three RBIs in the contest.
Erin Kotlarz notched three hits out of the leadoff slot.
GAME TWO: MARIAN 9, BENEDICTINE 5Benedictine failed to hold a 5-0 lead in the second contest as Marian scored eight in the fourth to score the sweep.
Kotlarz put Benedictine on the board with an infield hit in the second that brought home
Holly Haberkorn. Four runs came across in the third to extend the lead to 5-0. Haberkorn notched an RBI single in the frame with
Stephanie Ruvalcaba notching an RBI double. The eight-run fourth for Marian involved eight hits.
Haberkorn picked up a pair of hits in the game with
Alex Daviera also collecting a pair.
Benedictine (10-7, 4-2) travels to Lakeland on Sunday afternoon.
