Baseball Splits with MSOE

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2
LISLE, Ill.--- The Benedictine University baseball team finished off the weekend with a pair of Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference games against Milwaukee School of Engineering. Benedictine won the first game 7-1, but fell in game two 4-2. BenU served as the away team in both contests, as the games were originally scheduled to be played at MSOE.

Benedictine jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in game one on an RBI single by Kevin Hendricks, but the Raiders responded with a run in the bottom of the first. From that point on, the Eagles controlled the game, scoring six unanswered runs to back Ryan Rickert (win, seven innings, one run, seven hits, one walk, four strikeouts). The Eagles tallied 13 hits, with Ryan Mullin (two doubles), Kevin Hendricks, Mike Luschen, Max Oppenheimer, and Nicholas Fillmore all having multi-hit games. BenU also stole six bases, and Alex Wolfe and Tim Feeley each threw scorless innings in relief.

In game two, the Raiders scored a run in the second to take a 1-0 lead against BenU starter Dylan Smith (loss, 3.2 innings, four runs, two earned), but the Eagles responded in the third with an RBI single from Matthew Higgs. However, MSOE scored two in the third and one in the fourth, and while Chris Nesbitt would silence the MSOE bats in relief (4.1 innings, no runs, three hits, two walks, three strikeouts), BenU could only muster one more run on an error in the seventh inning. The Eagles had no extra-base hits in the contest, and Kevin Hendricks was the only BenU player with two hits.

BenU is now 6-10 overall and 3-1 in conference play. The Eagles are back in action on Tuesday when they take on Lakeland College in an NACC doubleheader at 1:00 p.m. in Plymouth, Wisconsin.
