Softball Drops Pair to Aurora

LISLE, Ill. - The Benedictine University softball team dropped both ends of a doubleheader to conference leader Aurora on Wednesday afternoon.

Aurora broke open a tight game late in the first contest. The Spartans scored in the first inning and added a second in the fifth before putting up three runs in the sixth to open a 5-0 lead. Shannon Fritsche and Kelly Mieszala drove home the runs for Benedictine which scored in the sixth and seventh. Mieszala posted three hits while Nikki Powers picked up a pair in the opener. Melissa Guzior suffered the loss in the circle, working 5.2 innings.

Game two saw Benedictine open a 2-0 lead with single runs in the first and second. Holly Haberkorn picked up an RBI single in the first and Erin Kotlarz added an RBI single in the second. Aurora was able to score five times in the third to take control, just two of the runs were earned. The Eagles brought the tying run to the palte in the seventh but could not complete a comeback. Kotlarz posted three hits out of the leadoff slot with Kailee Cable adding a pair. Haberkorn took the loss in the circle. Katie McKay was effective in relieft, working four innings and allowing just a single run.

Benedictine (12-9, 6-4) will look to rebound at home in non-conference action on Thursday at 3:00 p.m. against North Park.
