Box Score 2 CHICAGO, Ill. - The Benedictine University softball team saw their season end with a pair of losses to nationally ranked UW-Whitewater on Sunday afternoon in the final of the University of Chicago Regional.
UW-Whitewater used a big inning to capture a 7-5 decision in the opener. The Warhawks opened the scoring in the top of the first. Benedictine quickly grabbed a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the frame when
Kailee Cable recorded a two out two-run single. UW-Whitewater was able to even the game with a single run in the third. The contest remained even until UW-Whitewater erupted for five runs against three pitchers in the sixth. Benedictine rallied, bringing the tying run to the plate in the seventh. Cable recorded an RBI groundout in the sixth while
Chelsea White posted an RBI single in the seventh and
Melissa Stoch dorve home a run with a groundout.
Benedictine finished with six hits in the opener.
Kelly Mieszala picked up a pair. The loss in the opener forced a decisive second contest.
With the wind blowing out, both teams used the longball in game two as UW-Whitewater ended the year with a 5-2 decision. The Warhawks connected on back-to-back blasts in the fourth to open the scoring.
Sarah Koch followed with a solo homer in the bottom of the frame. A two-run homer in the fifth extended the advantage to 4-1. UW-Whitewater picked up a single run in the sixth to open a 5-1 lead. Koch homered again in the sixth to account for the final.
Koch posted two of the five hits for Benedictine.
Melissa Guzior tossed a complete game but took the loss. Mieszala, White, and
Holly Haberkorn were chosen to the All-Tournament Team.
Benedictine ends the season 34-13.
