CHICAGO, Ill. - The Benedictine University softball team upset #20 UW-Whitewater 4-2 in the opener of the 2014 NCAA Division III Softball Regionals.

UW-Whitewater opened the scoring in the bottom of the second with a single run but stranded two runners. Benedictine put together threats in almost every inning but broke through in the fourth with three runs to take the lead. Holly Haberkorn opened the inning with a single. With two outs, Shannon Fritsche doubled to tie the game. Chelsea White followed with a single to hand Benedictine the lead. Kelly Mieszala extended the advantage with an RBI single. The Eagles added to the lead in the fifth when Haberkorn crossed the plate on a wild pitch.

Haberkorn finished the game in the circle after Whitewater homered in the sixth to claw within 4-2. Haberkorn left the tying runs in scoring position in the seventh. Melissa Guzior collected the win, working five innings. Benedictine rapped 13 hits in the win with Mieszala and Haberkorn notching three apiece. White finished with a pair.

Benedictine (33-11) faces Thomas More at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday for the right to advance to the Regional Final.
