Volleyball Competes in Annual Red And Black Triangular

The Benedictine University women's volleyball team competed in the annual Red and Black Triangular in Naperville, falling to North Central College and Lake Forest College.

The Eagles (3-11) fell to North Central in three sets (21-25, 26-28, 10-25). After falling in the first set, Benedictine took a 22-16 lead over NCC after back-to-back kills from Beckie Whitmarsh and Kristi Naylon and an ace from Keriann Groen. The Cardinals slowly started to make their  way back and tied the game at 25. North Central scored three of the next four points to win the second set and take the match in three.

Whitmarsh tallied 10 kills and seven digs while Erin Wiegand had six kills and five digs. Abby Screnock recorded 22 assists while Kelcey Adams led the defense with nine digs.

In the second match, the Eagles tallied nine kills with just three errors to take the 25-21 win. Lake Forest took the next two sets before BenU battled back to win 25-17 and force a fifth set.

Molly Morley started the Eagles off right in the fifth set with back-to-back aces. With the game tied at eight, Lake Forest went on a 4-2 run before before a kill from Groen put BenU within reach. Lake Forest tallied two kills and the Eagles had two attack errors to give LFC the 15-13 win.

Groen and Whitmarsh both tallied 11 kills while Screnock recorded 30 assists and six digs. Caitlyn Martin had 10 digs.

The Eagles are back in action on Wednesday, September 24 when they travel to Wisconsin Lutheran College for a 7:00 pm contest.
