The Benedictine University volleyball team dropped two matches on Wednesday night, falling to nationall ranked Elmhurst College in the first match and University of Chicago in the nightcap.
In the first match against No. 16 Elmhurst (13-25, 14-25, 20-25), the Eagles (1-5) were out-hit 39-15 and only tallied four aces compared to EC's 11. Offensively,
Abby Screnock tallied three kills and also had 10 assists. Defensively,
Vanessa Possidoni recorded seven digs while
Andraia Leja collected five digs.
Benedictine fell in three sets in the second match (21-25, 5-25, 11-25). The Eagles had three team blocks including two solo blocks from
Keriann Groen. Groen and
Beckie Whitmarsh had a team high five kills while Screnock had four kills, 16 assists and a team high 10 digs.
Caitlyn Martin recorded nine digs and one ace.
"Today was tough," said head coach
Jennifer Wildes. "We did have some good moments though. It is still early and taking on these tough opponents will only help us improve and get ready for conference."
The Eagles travel to Illinois Wesleyan University this weekend to take on Coe College and Greenville College on Friday night followed by matches against Blackburn College and Ohio Northern University on Saturday.
