Men's Hoops Upended by Concordia Wisconsin

LISLE, Ill. - Despite shooting 50 percent for the contest, the Benedictine University men's basketball team suffered an 82-72 defeat to Concordia Wisconsin at home on Saturday afternoon.

Benedictine led for the entire first half. Adam Reynolds hit a three on the first offensive possession to open the scoring. Reynolds scored the first five points for the Eagles. Holding a three-point advantage at 18-15, Benedictine limited Concordia Wisconsin to just two points in a stretch of almost seven minutes. Reynolds converted on a layup with 6:37 to play in the first, putting the Eagles ahead by 11 points at 28-17. Benedictine shot 61.5 percent from the floor in the first 20 minutes.

Tim McGinty handed Benedictine a 42-33 edge early in the second half, but Concordia Wisconsin responded with 13 consecutive points, taking the lead for the first time. The Eagles could not respond in the second as Concordia Wisconsin continually kept the hosts at bay. A jumper from McGinty pulled Benedictine within 67-64 with 3:25 to play, but the visitors promptly scored seven straight to move ahead by double figures with 1:33 to go.

The contest was an opposite image of the first meeting, when Benedictine rallied from down 16 at the half to win on the road. Concordia Wisconsin scored 27 points at the free throw line while Benedictine made only six visits to the stripe in the contest. The visitors shot 53.6 from the floor in the second half. Tahron Harvey came off the bench to score 15 and lead Benedictine. Reynolds posted a season high 13. The Eagles finished +2 on the glass.
