Tim McGinty netted his 1,000th career point in the win.
The contest was close for most of the first half. Leading 17-15, Benedictine tallied five consecutive points capped by a three-pointer from
John Dodson to grab a 22-15 advantage with 9:22 to play.
Michael Blaszczyk drained a three with 4:52 left in the first to put Benedictine ahead by double digits at 31-20. The lead reached 17 on a triple from
Kevin Rollins late in the half and the Eagles held a 41-26 edge at the break.
McGinty became the 27th player in program history to reach 1,000 points when the post player connected on two free throws with 18:32 remaining in the game. Benedictine extended the lead to 31 points when Rollins capped a three-point play with 5:42 to go. Rockford cut into the lead, closing to within 15 points late before Benedictine scored the final five points.
Benedictine finished the contest shooting 46.2 percent from the floor. McGinty paced the Eagles with 16 points and added seven rebounds. Benedictine outrebounded Rockford 47-35. Rollins scored 10 while
Tahron Harvey notched 14 off the bench.
Benedictine (9-6, 7-3 NACC) travels to Dominican on Thursday night.
