MILWAUKEE, Wis. - The Benedictine University women's basketball team dispatched MSOE on the road Wednesday night, scoring a 58-46 win to remain tied for first in the conference.
Benedictine scored the first six points of the contest.
Meghan Novak made the score 6-0 with a three-pointer at the 16:30 mark. MSOE hit a trey, but Benedictine responded with nine consecutive points to jump ahead by double figures.
Nicole Botich opened the scoring run with a jumper. Novak knocked down a basket just before the mid-point of the half to grab a 15-3 lead. The hosts pulled within eight points, but then failed to score for nearly eight minutes as the lead ballooned. Free throws from Botich stretched the lead to 26-7 with just over two minutes. The score at the half was 28-9 as MSOE made just four shot attempts.
Following four straight points to open the second half on baskets from Novak and Botich, the Eagles led by 23 at 32-9. MSOE chipped away slowly, clawing within 10 points at 47-37 with 3:22 to go. Benedictine made seven free throws and hit shots as the game wound down to hold on for the victory.
The Eagles tallied 26 points in the paint and held a commanding 45-29 edge on the glass. Novak, closing in on 1,000 career points, led all scorers with 20 points. Botich tallied 13 points and 11 rebounds for her fourth double-double of the season.
Vincenza Ranallo added 10.
