Volleyball Drops Two at Eagle Classic

LISLE, Ill. - The Benedictine University women's volleyball team competed in day two of the annual Eagle Classic, falling to North Central College and Millikin University on Saturday afternoon. Erin Wiegand was named to the All-Tournament Team.

THE DETAILS
• The Eagles trailed early in the first set, down 6-1 which included two reception errors. Benedictine hit -.029 in the 15-25 loss
• With the second set tied at six, North Central went on a 4-0 run. Benedictine tried to make a late rally and came within two but it wasn't enough as NCC went on to win 25-21
• In the third set, the Cardinals went on a 5-0 run early to take a 15-9 lead. Later in the set, an Alyssa O'Boyle ace would tie the set at 17. After the teams battled back and forth a Becky Whitmarsh kill would give BenU set point and they secured the win on an NCC error, winning 26-24
• Benedictine would take a 10-9 lead in the fourth set but that would be the only time they claimed a lead, falling 24-21
• The match saw 23 ties and 11 lead changes

STAT LEADERS
• Erin Wiegand led BenU with 11 kills while Kara Epping tallied nine kills with only two errors
• Vanessa Possidoni and Kristina Billie each had 17 digs
• Kelcey Adams had 31 assists and seven digs

THE DETAILS
• The Eagles battled in the first set but with the score tied at 16, the MU offense caught fire going on a 5-0 run to take a 21-16 lead and never looked back, winning 25-19
• Benedictine took the lead in the second set, 10-7 but the Millikin offense once again caught fire taking an 18-13 lead and never looking back, winning 25-17
• With the score tied at four the MU offense came alive, tallying 17 kills and just four errors for a .382 hitting percentage. They would win 25-8

STAT LEADERS
• Wiegand claimed seven kills while Adams had 18 assists and seven digs
• Billie led BenU with 14 digs
• Caitlyn Martin and Possidoni combined for nine digs

UP NEXT
The Eagles compete in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference Tournament on Tuesday, November 3 as the No. 6 seed and they travel to No. 3 Concordia University-Wisconsin for a 7:00 pm contest.
