Women's Hoops Secures Fourth Straight

AURORA, Ill. - The Benedictine University women's basketball team claimed a fourth straight victory by besting Aurora University 65-47 on the road Saturday in conference action.

THE DETAILS
• Benedictine did not trail in the contest, scoring the first four points of the game on baskets from Raven Willis and Alanna Ferry
• Benedictine led 18-9 after the opening quarter of play
• An 11-0 run started at the end of the first quarter stretched the lead to 26-9 with five minutes left in the second following a layup from Briana Hamilton
• Aurora pulled within nine points at the break at 31-22 and chipped within six at 42-36 after three
• Five consecutive points to open the fourth on a three from Shannon Ryan and a layup from Hamilton again pushed the lead to double figures
• Aurora pulled no closer than nine points as Benedictine led by as many as 23 in the fourth (63-42) to gain the victory

FROM THE COACH
"Overall a great team victory today keyed by our depth and rebounding," first year head coach Charlie Averkamp said. "Our posts made plays inside when Aurora would make a run. We didn't shoot the ball well, but getting second shots allowed us to put points on the board."

STAT LEADERS

The inside game again set the tone as Benedictine scored 46 points in the paint compared to just eight for Aurora
• Benedictine, who leads the conference in rebound margin, held a 40-27 edge on the glass, grabbing 15 on the offensive glass which led to 19 second-chance points
• Hamilton was the lone player to reach double figures for Benedictine, finishing with 13 points
• Jasma Williams scored nine off the bench
• Nicole Botich grabbed 10 rebounds
• Ferry, Ryan, and DeKayla Crayton all scored eight points with Crayton reeling in nine boards
• Benedictine made only two three-pointers but finished the game shooting 45.2 percent overall
