The Benedictine University men's volleyball team dropped a five-set Midwest Collegiate Volleyball League contest to Dominican University on Thursday night at the Rice Center.
Dominican (2-3, 2-0 MCVL) jumped out to an early lead in the first set and never looked back, winning 25-12.
The Eagles (2-6, 0-2 MCVL) rallied back in the second set and tallied 14 kills with just three errors to win 25-21. The Dominican defense held BenU to a .000 hitting percentage in the third set, winning 25-16.
Benedictine did not give up, forcing a fifth set after a 25-22 win that included 10 team kills. It was back and forth in the fifth set until three straight DU kills gave them a 6-10 lead. Benedictine came within one after two
Eric Tarnow kills but the DU offense was too much as they went on to win 15-10.
Benedictine was led by
John Mathews and Tarnow, each with 11 kills.
Lewis Stein had eight kills and just one error with two solo blocks while
Markus Riemer had 36 assists. Defensively,
Ian Thompson had 15 digs.
Benedictine is back in action this weekend when they host Lakeland College at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 14 in the Rice Center.
