The Benedictine University men's volleyball team dropped a three-set Midwest Collegiate Volleyball League contest to Lakeland College on Saturday afternoon in the Dan and Ada Rice Center.
The Benedictine (2-7, 0-3 MCVL) offense struggled, tallying 23 kills but recording 25 errors. The Eagles trailed by six early in the first set but came within three after a
John Mathews kill. Lakeland College (7-4, 2-1 MCVL) pulled away with four straight kills and never looked back, taking the first set 25-18.
Benedictine led early in the second set but LC's 13 kills were too much for the BenU defense. The Eagles had just seven kills and several blocking errors to give Lakeland the 25-15 win. The young BenU team could not shift momentum in the third set, tallying just six kills with no team blocks as Lakeland won 25-14.
Eric Tarnow led BenU with eight kills while
Markus Riemer had 21 assists. Mathews tallied six digs and
Eric Krasich and
Ian Thompson each had five digs.
As a team, the Eagles hit -.022 and tallied 26 digs and four blocks.
Dominican had 37 kills, 37 digs and 7.5 team blocks. The Stars were led by Alec Redlich with 10 kills.
