The Benedictine University women's basketball team has just one game remaining in the regular season. BenU will take on Rockford University on the road on Tuesday night to close the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference's regular season schedule.
Benedictine (15-9, 15-4) split a pair of conference games this past week, defeating Dominican University 62-34 on Wednesday night and falling to Lakeland College 63-61 on Saturday. With the loss, the Eagles fell into a tie for second place in the NACC standings with Milwaukee School of Engineering.
Tuesday's games in the NACC will determine many of the seeds for the NACC Tournament. Benedictine has a chance to capture the second seed, needing a win and an MSOE loss to do so. BenU can also earn the second seed if MSOE and BenU (both 15-4) and Concordia-Wisconsin (14-5) end up in a three-way tie, as Benedictine has the tie-breaker in this scenario (best head-to-head record between the three teams). All other scenarios would result in Benedictine falling to the third seed. MSOE plays at first-place Wisconsin Lutheran College on Tuesday, while CUW hosts Marian University.
Tuesday: at Rockford (6-18, 5-14), 7:00 p.m.
To close out the regular season schedule, BenU faces a team it has yet to play this season. Rockford is one of two NACC teams the Eagles only see once in 2014-15 (Dominican University being the other). The Regents will miss the conference tournament for a second straight season this year, as the team currently sits in tenth place with a 6-18 overall and 5-14 NACC record. However, Rockford has played better of late, splitting its last four games and defeating Aurora University and Alverno College in that span.
The Eagles and Regents played just once last year as well, with BenU winning 74-63 at the Dan and Ada Rice Center to close the 2013-14 regular season schedule. Former Eagle
Michelle Gaede led the Eagles in the contest, collecting game-highs in points (19) and assists (8) in the last home game of her career. Current players
Meghan Novak (12 points) and
Nicole Botich (10 points, six rebounds) also scored in double-digits against the Regents. The Eagles are 5-0 against the Regents in the
Kristen Gillespie era, as Rockford's last victory in the series came during the 2010-11 season.
