Game Recap: Men's Volleyball |

Men's Volleyball Falls to Mount St. Joseph

Despite winning the first set, the Benedictine University men's volleyball team fell to Mount St. Joseph in four sets on Friday night in the Dan and Ada Rice Center.

The Eagles (3-8, 1-4 MCVL) had all of the momentum over MSJ (10-3, 4-0 MCVL), who are undefeated in conference play, in the first set. Benedictine tallied 10 kills and three blocks en route to a 25-19 win.

In the second set, BenU was down early but rallied back to take a 10-8 lead. Mount St. Joseph slowly climbed back and took the lead on three straight kills. Benedictine came within one on back-to-back kills from Eric Tarnow and Lewis Stein but MSJ's defense was too tough, ending the set with two straight blocks, 25-22.

The Tigers gained all of the momentum in the third set, going up by as many as 12 before the Eagles offense slowly started to make their way back. It was too late, as MSJ won the third set 25-15.

The fourth set saw Mount take an early lead, but let it dwindle with kills from Sterling Glover and Stein to come within three. In the end, the Tigers offense was too much to handle as they tallied 11 kills in a 25-17 win.

Glover led BenU with 11 kills while Tarnow tallied 10. John Mathews had six kills and six digs while Stein had five kills and four block assists. Markus Riemer recorded 34 assists and seven digs while Ian Thompson led the defense with eight digs.

The Tigers were led by Alex Vohland with 16 kills and nine digs.

Benedictine is back in action tomorrow morning when they host Fontbonne University at 10:00 a.m. in the Rice Center.
