LISLE, Ill. - The Benedictine University women's lacrosse team took to the field for the second time in the 2015 season and dropped an 18-6 decision to Illinois Wesleyan.
Benedictine opened a 2-0 lead in the game.
Becca Gullett opened the scoring with a goal less than 30 seconds into the contest, putting home a pass from
Jackie Andrews.
Nikki Gullett scored less than two minutes later. Illinois Wesleyan scored six straight to grab control of the game. Consecutive goals near the mid-point of the first half brought Benedictine within 6-4 as
Becca Gullett and Andrews scored less than a minute apart.
Three consecutive goals again put Illinois Wesleyan in control. The visitors led 12-5 at the half. Illinois Wesleyan scored nine unanswered goals including six in the second half before a late marker from
Jasmine Moreno.
Illinois Wesleyan held a 31-13 lead in shots.
Samantha Link paced the Eagles with four shots. Benedictine was a perfect 5-for-5 on clearing attempts in the first half and finished the game 8-for-16.
Hannah Smith made four saves in goal.
Benedictine (0-2) is back in action on Wednesday night with a road contest at DePauw.
