KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Benedictine University women's lacrosse team tallied a season high 12 goals, but it wasn't enough in a 19-12 defeat to Olivet.
Olivet netted the first six goals of the contest to grab control early.
Gabby Rowe tallied the first Benedictine finder on a free position shot with 17:01 remaining in the first half. Just over a minute later Olivet used a free position shot to open a 7-1 lead. Benedictine would answer with six consecutive goals, evening the game at the half.
Samantha Link started the run. The Eagles scored twice in the final 23 seconds and three times in the final 1:32 of the half to even the contest. Following an unassisted goal from Rowe, Link evened the game with just six seconds to play in the half.
Olivet scored twice to begin the second half, grabbing a 9-7 advantage. Benedictine answered again, evening the game at 9-9 with 24:38 to play.
Jasmine Moreno collected the first goal while Link provided the equalizer. Olivet then scored four in a row to move ahead 13-9 and did not look back. Benedictine could pull no closer than 13-10 the rest of the way.
The contest was originally slated to take place at Olivet, but was moved to Kalamazoo College due to field conditions. Olivet held a 28-23 advantage in shots. Link scored six times on 10 shots, matching a school record for goals that she already owned from last year.
Hannah Payne also scored six goals in a contest during the inaugural season in 2013. Rowe added three goals with three groundballs and
Becca Gullett a pair of goals.
Hannah Smith stopped seven shots in goal.
Benedictine (0-3) plays at Kalamazoo on Sunday afternoon to finish a weekend stint in Michigan.
