LISLE, Ill. - The Benedictine University men's basketball team led almost wire-to-wire in securing an 80-68 win over MSOE on Saturday afternoon.
Trailing 1-0 following the first possession of the game, Benedictine scored six straight to take the lead for good.
Kevin Rollins hit a free throw with 11:19 to play, putting the Eagles ahead 14-5. Benedictine led by 11 late in the half and held a 30-21 advantage at the intermission.
The lead extended in the second half. Benedictine used a 9-1 run opened with a
Tim McGinty triple to nab a 51-33 lead with 11:27 left. Moments later an 8-0 run capped with a pair of free throws from
Tahron Harvey stretched the advantage to 61-39 just past the mid-point of the second. MSOE battled and pulled within nine points late but Benedictine held on for the decision.
Five players scored in double figures for Benedictine, who shot 56.5 percent from the floor in the second half. McGinty led the way with 24 points and added eight boards as Benedictine held a 38-23 lead on the glass.
John Dodson and
Adam Reynolds collected 13 points each with Reynolds adding 10 rebounds. Harvey netted 11 off the bench with Rollins scoring 10 on senior day.
Benedictine (14-8, 12-5 NACC) returns to action on Tuesday with the final home contest of the season against Dominican.
