ROCK ISLAND, Ill. - The Benedictine University men's lacrosse team opened a string of three consecutive road contests with a 13-8 loss at Augustana.
Eric Orndorf handed Benedictine their only lead of the game, scoring with 13:27 left in the opening quarter on a feed from
David Blanco. The goal was Orndorf's eighth of the season. Augustana scored five straight to take the lead for good. Quick goals from
Andrew Zmijewski and
Tony DePinto moments apart late in the first brought Benedictine within 5-3. Trailing 6-3 entering the second, Blanco netted the only goal from either side to pull Benedictine within 6-4 at the half.
Orndorf opened the scoring in the second half, striking with 10:05 to play in the third. The goal pulled Benedictine to within 6-5. Augustana responded with five consecutive goals to gain separation and pull away.
Dominic DePinto struck for his first goal of the season with 8:15 remaining to break the stretch.
Benedictine won 13-of-25 faceoffs in the game and scooped 30 groundballs while accumulating 28 shots. Orndorf scored three times on eight shots, also corralling three groundballs and adding an assist. Blanco scored once and distributed a pair of helpers.
Jeremy Voyda stopped six shots in net, entering late in the first.
Benedictine (2-2) travels to Alabama to face Huntingdon on Monday night.
