Box Score On Sunday, the Benedictine University baseball team competed in game number four on its annual Spring Break Florida trip. For the third straight contest, BenU's game ended in walk-off fashion, with the Eagles falling 5-4 to the Corsairs of UMass-Dartmouth.
 
For the first time on the trip, BenU allowed the opponent to take the first lead of the ballgame. Starter Mike Irgang (no-decision, four innings, five hits, one run, two walks, one strikeout) allowed an RBI single to UMD in the bottom of the third inning to give the Corsairs a 1-0 lead.
 
Benedictine would score the game's next two runs to take the lead. Nick Severino doubled in Brandon Villanueva in the fifth to tie things at 1-1. In the sixth, Matthew Higgs led off with a single, but would score on the same play after a three-base error from the left fielder. Reliever Christopher Nesbitt cruised through his first two innings of work after entering for Irgang, but allowed a home run in the seventh to tie the score a 2-2.
 
The next half inning, the Eagles would respond with two runs. BenU's first three hitters reached base in the top of the eighth, with Kyle Bock singling in Higgs to take a 3-2 lead. Later in the inning, Justin Kovlasky scored on a wild pitch to increase the lead to two.
 
UMD, however, would get to Benedictine's bullpen in the final two innings. The Corsairs scored twice in the eighth on RBI groundouts, then again in the ninth on a walk-off single with one out.
 
The Eagles tallied nine hits on the day, with Kovalsky (2-for-4) recording two hits for a fourth consecutive contest. Higgs also had a multi-hit game, going 2-for-4 as well.
 
Benedictine will have an off-day in the Sunshine State tomorrow before hitting the field again on Tuesday. The team will oppose Rowan University at 8:30 a.m. central time at Chain of Lakes Field #3 in Winter Haven, Florida. Live stats will be available at http://www.sidearmstats.com/rowan/baseball/.
