Softball Drops Two in Florida

The Benedictine University softball team dropped two games on Sunday afternoon on their second day in Florida.

BENEDICTINE VS. UW-RIVER FALLS
Benedictine (1-3) took a 1-0 lead on a Shannon Fritsche run after she walked and stole second base earlier in the inning. University of Wisconsin-River Falls resonded with a run of their own in the bottom of the frame. Both teams tallied a run in the third to tie it at two.

River Falls scored four runs off of three hits in the fourth to take a 6-2 lead. The Eagles cut their deficit in the fifth, tallying a run on a Sarah Koch RBI. River Falls secured their win when they scored two more runs in the sixth. Benedictine could not respond, falling 8-3.

Chelsea White was 2-4 and Angie Malsack was 1-3 with a run scored. Koch had two RBI. Holly Haberkorn pitched 3.1 innings with seven hits, five earned runs and recorded four strikeouts. Eryn Pondo pitched 2.2 innings with four hits and two earned runs.

BENEDICTINE VS. AMHERST
After a scoreless first inning, Amherst took a 5-0 lead on two hits and one BenU error. The Eagles answered back in the bottom of the third, tallying three runs with hits from White, Kailee Cable and Haberkorn.

Benedictine took a 7-5 lead in the fifth when Jenna Boyajian scored two runs after Koch drove in a run earlier in the inning. Amherst rallied back to score three runs in the sixth off of five hits to take an 8-7 lead. The Eagles would not falter as Haberkorn knocked in a run in the bottom of the frame to tie it at eight.

A scoreless seventh forced extra innings. Amherst led off the frame with four runs and the Eagles could only respond with a run, falling 12-9.

Koch was 2-5 with three runs scored and an RBI while Cable was 3-4 with two RBI. Haberkorn was 1-3 with three RBI and Boyajian was 1-3 with two RBI.

On the mound, Melissa Guzior pitched 3.2 innings with nine hits while Katie McKay pitched 4.0 innings with six hits and one strikeout.
