The Benedictine University softball team rebounded from their second day of play, winning both of their games on Monday night. The Eagles are now 3-3 overall.
BENEDICTINE VS. SCRANTONThe Benedictine bats were on fire in the first game as the Eagles tallied four runs in the very first inning that included a three-run homer from
Kailee Cable. In the second inning, both
Chelsea White and
Sarah Koch hit home runs to take a 7-0 lead.
Scranton tallied a run in the third but BenU answered right back with four more runs in the fourth including hits from
Shannon Fritsche,
Holly Haberkorn,
Tori Walzak and
Miranda Hiemer. Scranton would tally two runs in the fifth but it wasn't enough as the Eagles would go on to win 11-3 in five innings.
Fritsche was 2-3 with three runs while Haberkorn was 2-2 with an RBI. Hiemer had two hits and an RBI and Cable was 1-3 with three RBI.
On the mound,
Melissa Guzior picked up the win, pitching 4.1 innings and striking out five.
BENEDICTINE VS. UW-STEVENS POINTWith momentum on their side, the Eagles took an early 1-0 lead when Koch scored on a wild pitch from third against Stevens-Point.
After four scoreless innings, UW-Stevens Point tallied two runs off of two hits and two BenU errors in the sixth. Benedictine tied it at two in the bottom of the frame with a Brittany Cark RBI single.
The Eagles defense held UWSP scoreless in the seventh and Haberkorn's walk off single sealed the BenU 3-2 win.
Cable was 3-4 and Haberkorn was 2-4.
Kelsey Jeffries was 2-2. Haberkorn pitched a complete seven innings with zero earned runs and three strikeouts.
Benedictine softball has an off day on Tuesday, March 17 but is back at it again on Wednesday, March 18 when they take on Plattsburgh State at 4:00 pm CST and then McDaniel College at 6:00 pm.
