The Benedictine University softball team split a doubleheader on Wednesday night, defeating Plattsburgh State but falling to McDaniel College.
BENEDICTINE VS. PLATTSBURGH STATEAfter a scoreless first inning, the Benedictine bats caught fire, tallying six runs in the second inning.
Melissa Stoch knocked in the first two runs followed by an RBI single from
Kelli Holstine.
Shannon Fritsche scored two runs and
Sarah Koch ended the BenU scoring with an RBI double.
Plattsburgh State cut their deficit with two runs in the second but it would be the last time they scored. The Eagles went on to score two more runs, one in the third inning and one in the fourth, that included an RBI sac fly from
Courtney Grasz and an RBI double from
Kailee Cable to make it 8-2.
Melissa Guzior picked up the win for the Eagles, pitching six innings and only allowing five hits and striking out two.
Emily Chitwood pitched the seventh inning, not allowing any hits and striking out one batter.
BENEDICTINE VS. MCDANIELThe second game was a pitchers duel for the first three innings, both teams scoreless. McDaniel College scored a run in the fourth to take a 1-0 lead.
The Eagles tallied several errors in the seventh inning to allow McDaniel to score four runs. Benedictine could not rebound, falling 5-0.
Holly Haberkorn pitched seven complete innings for BenU, allowing just one earned run and had five strikeouts.
Benedictine softball is back in action on Thursday night when they host SUNY Geneseo at 4:00 pm CST and Stevenson University at 6:00 pm CST.
