Box Score On Tuesday, the Benedictine University baseball team continued its annual Florida Spring Break trip with a morning game against Rowan University in Winter Haven, Florida. The Eagles fell 10-2 at the hands of the Rowan Profs.
Â
Rowan jumped out to a fast start, hitting a three-run home run in the top of the first inning off BenU starter
Mike Spalla. However, Benedictine would load the bases in the bottom half of the inning and plate a run on an error to make the score 3-1.
Â
The Profs would not let up offensively, scoring three more in the top of the second and one in the top of the fifth before BenU could strike again. With one out in the bottom of the fifth, left fielder
Matthew Higgs tripled to center field to put a man on third for the first time since the first inning.
Kyle Bock drove Higgs in on the next at-bat with a ground out to second base, moving the score to 7-2.
Â
The Bock RBI groundout in the fifth inning would be the last time the Eagles put up a tally, as Rowan finished off the game's scoring with two in the sixth and one in the eighth for the 10-2 final.
Â
Despite the defeat, Higgs recorded one of his best offensive days as an Eagles, going 3-for-4 with the triple and both of Benedictine's runs. Designated hitter
Brandon Villanueva and shortstop
Max Oppenheimer went 2-for-3 at the dish. BenU tallied 11 hits on the day.
Â
The 1-4 Eagles are back in action tomorrow, as the team will oppose The College of New Jersey at 5:30 p.m. central time at Lake Myrtle Field #1 in Auburndale, Florida.Â
