Box Score
The Benedictine University baseball team continued its ten-game road trip in Florida with an evening matchup against The College of New Jersey on Wednesday. BenU dropped a close ballgame, falling 5-4 to the Lions.

Benedictine struck first in the contest, recording its biggest inning of the game in the second frame. With the bases loaded and one out, center fielder Justin Montalvo hit a sacrifice fly to center field, advancing all runners one base and driving in right fielder Tim Hendricks to take the early lead. One batter later, leadoff man and second baseman Matthew Higgs cleared the bases with a double to put BenU on top 3-0.

Eagles starter Alex Wolfe coasted through the first two innings, but the Lions would get to him in the third. With two outs and runners on first and second, the Lions hit a bases-clearing double of their own, pulling to within one and ending Wolfe's day after 2.2 innings.

Sophomore Jake Trumpis relieved Wolfe, ending the third inning strong and tossing a scoreless fourth. In the bottom of the fifth, TCNJ scored twice on a two-error play from BenU to take a 4-3 lead.

However, the Eagles would respond right back in the top half of the sixth. After designated hitter Mike Ostrowski and catcher D.J. Dillon reached base, Ostrowski would score on a passed ball with one out to tie the score at 4-4.

Benedictine turned to Dylan Smith and Kamren Ackerman for the bottom of the sixth, where the Lions would take a 5-4 despite recording just one hit in the frame on a leadoff double. Ackerman and Tim Feeley shut the door for the rest of the contest, but BenU was able to generate just one baserunner themselves from the seventh inning on.

Higgs and Hendricks each tallied two hits and combined for four of Benedictine's six on the evening.

Next up for the Eagles is a Thursday contest against Allegheny College. BenU will oppose the Gators at Frostproof High School in Frostproof, Florida at 11:00 a.m. CT (12:00 p.m. ET). Live statistics and an audio broadcast will be available at http://portal.stretchinternet.com/allegheny/.
