Box Score The Benedictine University baseball team ended its ten-game trip to Florida on Saturday, defeating Ramapo College 5-4 at the Lake Myrtle Complex in Auburndale, Florida. BenU moved to 3-7 with the victory.
Â
Benedictine scored all five of its runs in just two of the game's nine innings. Two of those runs crossed the plate in the second, as
Nick Johnson recorded one of his two RBIs on the day in the frame.
Â
The Eagles used the strong start of
Mike Irgang to back the offense until it struck once again in the fifth. After the inning started with a hit by pitch, a bunt, and a walk, Johnson drove in his second run of the day on an RBI groundout to plate Benedictine's third run.
Erik Callaghan and
Andrew Hotze followed with RBIs of their own, giving BenU all of the offense they would need on the day.
Â
Irgang pitched into the seventh inning, tossing 6.1 innings and allowing just three runs.
Mike Spalla entered to pitch the seventh and eighth, holding the lead for
Dylan Smith to close the game in the ninth. The sophomore induced two Ramapo fly outs to center field and a pop-out to first base to seal the Eagles victory.
Â
The Eagles return home from Florida this weekend and will be back in action on Tuesday. BenU will travel to Wheaton College for a 6:00 p.m. start.
