Records Fall as Men's Lacrosse Blitzes Fontbonne

LISLE, Ill. - The Benedictine University men's lacrosse team set several school records en route to a 23-6 win over Fontbonne in the opener of conference play on Saturday afternoon.

Fontbonne matched Benedictine early in the contest. Blake Keenan opened the scoring on the game's first possession, striking on a feed from Andrew Zmijewski. With the contest even at 3-3, the Eagles scored three straight to close the opening quarter and open a 6-3 edge. Eric Orndorf opened the string.

The visitors pulled within 7-5 before Benedictine turned on the jets. The Eagles netted 13 consecutive goals to turn the contest into a rout. Corbin Gett opened the scoring with 10:51 remaining in the first half on a pass from Tony DePinto. Fontbonne did not score again until there was just 8:07 left in the game. Benedictine held a 13-5 lead at the half.

The 23 goals scored is a single game program record. Keenan set a single game standard with seven goals and added an assist on nine shots. Keenan also caused three turnovers while scooping three groundballs. Eight different individuals scored with four goals coming in man-up situations. Gett added four goals and four assists. Orndorf netted three goals to go with four assists and Trevor Manzke also scored three times. David Blanco led the way with 10 shots.

Jeremy Voyda and Jack Collins split time in goal with Collins recording a pair of saves. The Eagles racked up 57 shots and 61 groundballs while winning 26 faceoffs and posting successful clears on 11-of-12 attempts. Rudy Berg won 21 faceoffs and led all players with 12 groundballs.

Benedictine (5-2, 1-0) travels to Cornell on Wednesday night.
