Box Score 2 The Benedictine University softball team opened the home schedule on a chilly Saturday afternoon at the Village of Lisle/Benedictine University Sports Complex. BenU took both contests against Beloit College, record 8-3 wins in game one and game two.
GAME ONEThe Eagles took no time getting the offense going, scoring twice in the bottom of the first inning. With two runners on,
Kailee Cable reached on a bunt single to drive in
Chelsea White. On the same play, Beloit committed a throwing error, which allowed
Shannon Fritsche to score.
Holly Haberkorn drove in Cable one batter later to make the score 3-0.
After a solid first two innnings in the circle, Haberkorn, BenU's starting pitcher, allowed two Buccaneer runs in the third to make the score 3-2. In the bottom half of the fourth, however, the Eagles plated two more runs. Benedictine scored on an error and then on a double by
Courtney Grasz to build the lead back up to 5-2.
Beloit gained some momentum in the top of the fifth with a home run to right center field. Once again, it would not take long for the Eagles to respond. Haberkorn helped her cause on the mound by driving in Fritsche and
Sarah Koch on a triple. One batter later,
Melissa Stoch singled in Haberkorn to bring the game to the 8-2 final score.
White, Fritsche, Haberkorn, and Stoch each recorded two-hit games, while Haberkorn drove in three runs. Benedictine tallied 11 hits and six steals in the win, including two from Fritsche.
Haberkorn earned the win, tossing 5.1 innings and allowing three runs on seven hits with five strikeouts.
Eryn Pondo was solid in her 1.2 innings of relief, allowing just one hit.
GAME TWOBeloit jumped out to an early lead off BenU starter
Melissa Guzior, scoring twice in the top of the first. In the bottom half of the inning, a Cable double and Haberkorn single drove in runs to tie the game at two.
The Buccaneers scored once more in the top of the second to take a 3-2 lead. However, the third inning tally would be the final run Beloit would score all game, as the Eagles scored six unanswered runs to close things out.
In the fifth, the Eagles tallied three runs to take a 5-3 lead. With runners on first and second, White and Fritsche executed a double steal, and an errant throw to third allowed each runner to move up an extra base. Singles by Koch and Stoch scored two more in the inning.
Benedictine wasn't done offensivley, as the team scored another three in the sixth. With two outs and runners on first and second, White gave BenU some valuable insurance with a two-run triple. One batter later, Koch singled White in to move the score to 8-3.
The Eagles tallied eight hits and capitalized off of six Buccaneer errors, as seven of the eight Eagle runs were unearned. On the basepaths, Benedictine swiped five more bases, with Koch stealing two.
In the circle, Guzior tossed 6.1 innings, allowing three unearned runs on six hits, five strikeouts, and two walks.
Katie McKay entered for the final two outs.
