ELMHURST, Ill. - The Benedictine University baseball team allowed seven runs to Elmhurst College in the bottom of the third inning, dropping a 9-6 non-conference contest on Thursday night.
Benedictine used seven pitchers in the contest but built a 4-0 lead with a pair of runs in each of the first two innings.
Brandon Clark handed the Eagles a 1-0 lead with an RBI single to score
Max Oppenheimer just four batters into the game.
Mike Ostrowski extended the lead to 2-0 with an RBI double. Two unearned runs in the second extended the lead.
Elmhurst (10-17) scored seven runs in the bottom of the third to erase the deficit and take control. Benedictine scored single runs in the fifth and seventh but could not overcome the deficit. Ostrowksi singled home a run in the fifth and
Matthew Higgs logged an RBI single in the seventh.
Ivan Guzman started the game and worked two innings, taking the loss.
Jake Trumpis struck out two in 1.1 scoreless frames while
T.J. Floyd also struck out a pair in an inning.
Joe Palasiewicz closed out the game with a perfect eighth. The offense registered 12 hits with Clark, Ostrowski,
Tim Hendricks and
Justin Kovalsky each picking up a pair. Eight individuals tallied a hit.
Benedictine (13-14) returns to the field on Saturday at 12:00 p.m. on the road at Edgewood.
