MADISON, Wis. - The Benedictine University baseball team was swept in a conference doubleheader for the first time this season, dropping a pair of games at Edgewood College on Saturday.
EDGEWOOD 5, BENEDICTINE 3 - Game OneBenedictine rallied twice but could not score a win in the opener.
Trailing 1-0, Benedictine evened the game with a single run in the top of the fourth when
Mike Ostrowski reached on an error. Trailing again at 3-1, the Eagles scored twice in the eighth on RBI singles from
Matthew Higgs and
Tim Hendricks. Edgewood instantly scored twice in the bottom of the frame to score the home victory.
Hendricks and
Max Oppenheimer posted three hits each in the top twp slots of the order.
Cody Netzel worked six innings, striking out six in a no-decision.
Alex Wolfe suffered the loss.
EDGEWOOD 6, BENEDICTINE 1 - Game TwoFour runs in the seventh broke open a close game and allowed the host Eagles to sweep.
Edgewood took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first against reigning NACC Pitcher of the Week
Mike Irgang. Benedictine was able to tie the score with back-to-back doubled from
Justin Kovalsky and
Brandon Clark.
Irgang worked six innings 6.1 innings and took the loss, striking out four. Hendricks added three more hits in the loss. Kovalsky and Clark notched two each.
Benedictine (13-16, 8-4 NACC) hosts Dominican in a doubleheader on Sunday.
