Box Score 2 LISLE, Ill. - The Benedictine University softball team swept Concordia Chicago on Senior Day Friday afternoon, jumping up to second place in the conference standings.
BENEDICTINE 9, CONCORDIA CHICAGO 0 - Game OneAll of the offense came in the first inning and Benedictine wasted no time in setting the tone of the big doubleheader.
The Eagles sent 14 batters to the plate in the first inning.
Sarah Koch opened the scoring in the game with a two-run double. Concordia Chicago, who came into the game ahead of Benedictine, did not record an out before a pitching change.
Kailee Cable and
Melissa Stoch also recorded two-run hits in the frame.
The early support enabled
Holly Haberkorn to toss a complete game shutout. Haberkorn allowed just three hits and struck out five in the abridged game. Koch was the lone player to notch two hits.
BENEDICTINE 7, CONCORDIA CHICAGO 4 - Game TwoThe first inning again provided much of the offense in the game as Benedictine held off the visitors for a sweep.
Down 1-0, Benedictine scored three in the first to seize control. Koch recorded an RBI single to tie the game and scored on a wild pitch to put Benedictine ahead.
Kelsey Jeffries added an RBI single in the frame.
The Eagles extended the lead with a run in the fifth and three in the sixth. Koch collected an RBI groundout in the fifth. Jenna
Boyajian also singled home a run in the inning. Concordia Chicago scored twice in the seventh to account for the final.Chelsea White logged three hits in the game as Benedictine amassed 10. Jeffries and Boyajian added two each.
Melissa Guzior won in the circle, working 5.1 innings to improve to 11-2.
Benedictine (28-9, 15-5) concludes the regular season on Saturday at Alverno.
