LISLE, Ill. - The Benedictine University baseball team dropped a pair of games at home to Marian University on Monday.
Benedictine led in both games but could not come away with a victory. Scoring an unearned run in the bottom of the first, Benedictine grabbed a 1-0 lead in the opener. Marian batted around twice and scored 13 times in the fourth to grab control. The game lasted just seven innings as Benedictine fell 16-3. The Eagles managed only five hits in the first game, two of which came from
Kyle Bock.
The second contest saw Benedictine open a 4-0 lead with two runs in each of the first two innings.
Justin Kovalsky tripled home
Tim Hendricks, who singled in the bottom of the first to become the conference's all-time leader in hits. Kovalsky scored on a wild pitch. Hendricks picked up an RBI single in the second while the lead reached 4-0 on a double play. Marian evened the game with four runs in the sixth.
Nick Severino logged a pinch-hit RBI double with two outs to put Benedictine ahead in the seventh. Marian scored five runs in the ninth to post the win.
Mike Irgang allowed four runs in 6.2 innings in the second contest.
Cody Netzel struck out six in 3.2 innings in the first contest. Kovalsky notched three hits and Hendricks two in the second game. The games were initially slated to be played on Saturday but were moved due to weather.
Benedictine (16-20, 11-7 NACC) plays at home for the final time on Wednesday night with a non-conference game against Wheaton at 6:00 p.m.
