LISLE, Ill. - In a season filled with close contests, the Benedictine University baseball team added one more, recording a 3-2 walk-off win over Wheaton College on Wednesday night in the final non-conference game of the year.
Trailing 2-0, Benedictine took advantage of a pair of Wheaton miscues in the bottom of the ninth to score three times and steal the victory. The inning opened with
Andrew Hotze drawing a walk.
Tim Hendricks replaced Hotze on a fielder's choice.
D.J. Dillon singled and pinch runner
Justin Montalvo moved up on a wild pitch to place runners at second and third.
Nick Fillmore singled home a run while an error allowed the tying run to cross. With two outs the winning run came across when
Max Oppenheimer was able to reach safely on an error.
Seven different pitchers took to the mound for Benedictine in the contest.
Matt Bohanon started and allwoed just one run in three innings.
T.J. Floyd earned the win by working a scoreless ninth. The bullpen worked six near perfect innings, allowing just three hits with a walk and six strikeouts. The Eagles were able to win despite totaling just three hits.
Benedictine (17-20) will conclude the regular season on Saturday at 12:00 p.m. with a doubleheader against Concordia Chicago
